Guidelines for Preserving the Integrity of Films
Original Format & Presentation:Alterations like "pan and scan" (often misrepresented as "full screen") are a disservice to the art form and should be avoided entirely.
Films should always be shown as the director originally intended, without censorship, unless explicitly presented as a “Director’s Cut” or similar variant. Even then, these cuts should complement the original, not replace it.

Colorization & Remakes:Classic films like Casablanca should never be colorized, remade, or altered beyond quality remastering. Such acts should face professional consequences, like revocation of a director’s guild membership.
Films shot intentionally in black and white (e.g., Citizen Kane) must remain untouched, as their visual style is integral to the artistic vision.
Colorization may only be appropriate for films where financial or technological constraints initially prevented its use, provided the director would have supported it.

Broadcast Standards:Movies aired on TV should remain unaltered and free from intrusive elements like overlaid ads, pop-ups, or streaming information. If urgent interruptions are necessary, broadcasters should break into the film and handle the matter professionally.
Commercial breaks are acceptable only on free TV and should occur no more than once every 15 minutes.

Language & Content:Dialogue or visuals should not be altered to sanitize films for broader audiences (e.g., creating "G-rated" versions).
Outdated or politically incorrect terms should remain as historical context, not updated for modern sensibilities.
Nudity is part of the human experience and not inherently offensive; the problem lies in the viewer's mindset, not the content.

Sound Standards:Audio levels must be standardized to avoid sudden spikes in volume, such as when transitioning between programs and commercials. Violators should face industry penalties.

Advertising Ethics:No single commercial should air more than once per hour on a channel or within a single program. Advertisers seeking multiple slots must create unique ads to avoid redundancy. Saturation advertising through repetitive commercials is both annoying and counterproductive.

Director’s Cuts & Revisions:"Director’s Cuts" should enhance the original work, not replace it entirely. For example, the Amadeus Director’s Cut should have been a limited-time release rather than supplanting the original version.
Sequels and revisions should respect the quality and legacy of the original, avoiding unnecessary meddling.
